From over 100 teams around the word, only 13 of them made it through the grand final, where they pitched their game changing ideas to our esteemed panel of judges. The pitches have been completed; the scary stuff is over. Now, it's down to the nail-biting time of announcing the winners of each category. But before we announce them, joining me on this is the man, is the myth, is the, can I say it? Yep, the legend that is Shell Eco-Marathon's Norman Koch. Hello, Norman.

Hey, Colin. Yeah, a lot of the entries were mind-blowing. I'm really, really proud of these young teams' ingenious thinking. The innovations, the progressive thinking, how they think of the entire ecosystem. But also, the creativity with which they presented their entries, their presentations. Each of the teams really understood the humanity of the people, the people that a lot of these technologies, a lot of these innovations are supposed to serve. Full marks on that one as well.

We want to thank all of the teams for entering this challenge. At Adobe, digital literacy is the power to use digital tools to solve problems, to create innovative projects, and enhance communications. It's my pleasure to announce the winners of the Digital Literacy Awards with Adobe. In third place, we have Garuda UNY Eco from Indonesia.
Footage of the Garuda pitch is shown. A live narrator appears on screen next to a stylised small red car with a driver leaning out of the window. Symbols indicating wireless connectivity surround the car. The car is replaced by text, driver's suggest warning. The live narrator flashes from the right to the left of the screen, and a small cartoon car carrying overhead luggage appears next to a large phone screen displaying the CO2 SDA app. Speech bubbles are used to call out items on the phone display. The car and phone screen are replaced by an animated hand holding a pen, which draws a graph showing fuel consumption.
Mark Andrews
The Garuda Team's use of Illustrator to visualise system flows, XD to develop an app prototype, culminating with some impressive video production that utilise Premiere and After Effects to construct an engaging and polished pitch, which was super-impressive.

In second place, Galway Energy Efficient Car from Ireland.

Using Adobe XD to design and prototype their app, and then using Premiere to craft an evocative and powerful video presentation that used both stock and self-shot footage. This was coupled with a strong narrative and structure to communicate the problem and showcase their solution.

In first place, DJS Miles from India.

Footage from the DJS Miles pitch is shown. An animated avatar narrator is at the bottom left of the screen. A house with cutaway to show a family in their living room is behind the avatar. On the right side of the screen are symbols for CO2 and radiation. The house and symbols is replaced by a stylised street scene of a town centre area, showing shopfronts and a sidewalk café. Traffic is passing in front of the buildings. The avatar gestures to different areas of the scene.
Mark Andrews
The DJS submission thoughtfully used motion graphics and avatar narration combined with well-crafted scripts that communicated the challenge and solution in a clear way.

You know, Colin, I believe that this is what we need to keep on doing. I think Pitch the Future is now going to be a very important, if not a pillar, of the entire Shell Eco-Marathon ecosystem. Maybe we can also ask the students, what would they love to crack, in terms of solving today's energy problems or today's energy opportunities. I look forward to the 2021 edition of the Shell Eco-Marathon Pitch the Future. Watch this space.

Now then, I was looking for an idea which was completely unexpected, some real out of the box thinking. The winning team, which I've chosen, is, drum roll, AlecTED from Turkey.

What they had done, I thought was amazing. They'd looked up at the sky, saw how birds fly in a V-shaped formation, and they do this for efficiency. The first bird takes all the aero-impact, and then the ones behind it have a little bit of an easier job. They thought, we should do that when we're driving our cars. We should have the most aerodynamic car at the front, and then it tails off in different range, right up to a big boxy thing at the back. To apply what you're seeing in the sky, and put that down into traffic, that's really good thinking, that is. That is why you get the Colin Furze choice award.

But as you all know, this isn't the end. We still have a range of virtual activities over the next six months. It fills me with great pride that we have been able to continue learning together and even holding competitions during these challenging times.
